Where are you from?
Military bases in Okinawa, Idaho, South Dakota, etc.

What is your favorite thing to do in Boston/Cambridge?
I love to eat cheap food and explore Boston.

What is your science or math background?
Obtained a bachelor’s in chemistry.

Why did you choose the WW Academy?
I wanted a program that breaks the mold on teacher education.

What has been the best part about your time at the WW Academy so far?
The people at the Academy are amazing, caring, and helpful.

What has been the most challenging thing and how are you working/have worked to overcome it?
The most challenging thing so far is finding ways for me to learn from various expert educators regarding aspects of being a teacher—be that lesson planning, classroom management, or other topics that I haven’t even thought of yet. I’m working with my learning design coach as well as people from the Academy to brainstorm ideas to solve this.

What do you hope to do after you complete your M.Ed. at the WW Academy?
I hope to be a chemistry teacher on a military base in East Asia.

Why should others consider the WW Academy program?
The program at the Academy is very individualized and flexible. The staff at the Academy care about their teacher candidates and dedicate a lot of time to providing individualized feedback, suggestions, and learning material.

How is the program shaping your idea of what it means to be a good teacher?
Initially, my vision of teaching has been shaped by my own past experiences, which mostly revolved around lectures. While there still is value in lecturing, I now see the importance of having hands-on, student-led activities. This is especially important if the goal is to create future scientists as opposed to simply students of science.
